Furniture care

Care Advice For Outdoor Furniture

To clean, first wipe with a cloth using mild detergent, then wipe with a dry cloth. Avoid exposing furniture to direct sunlight or heat sources for long periods of time as this could cause discolouration.

Do not place hot or wet items directly onto wooden surfaces, use place mats, coasters or trivets to protect the wood.

Clean up any drips or spills immediately using a dry clean cloth that is absorbent.

Items such as sunscreens and lotions are best avoided making contact with the wood surface as these can turn the wood black and are difficult to remove by cleaning.

When not in use, cover or store your outdoor furniture inside. Do not cover too tightly, a breathable water resistant fabric is recommended when covering your outdoor furniture. Leaving a gap at the bottom when covered and stored will help air to circulate.

During winter months, covering is not advised, store furniture in a well aired, inside space that is ideally not heated.

Outdoor furniture is naturally vulnerable to moisture. Rain and sea water can affect the wood surface, especially flat surfaces. Ideally when weather is wet, bring the furniture undercover or inside. If wet, wipe immediately to help the furniture dry quickly.

To help keep your outdoor furniture clean, give it a yearly wash with soapy water, followed by a good rinse and dry. Always wash or scrub along the wood grain. This will help to remove algae, dust and pollution built up when in use.
